Lightenings
Lightenings
“And it is not particular at all, Just old truth dawning: there is no next-time-round. Unroofed scope. Knowledge-freshening wind”
Excerpt from Lightenings, by Seamus Heaney
This painting is a refracted image, broken down by individual brushstrokes, of an old gasworks in the UK. The prominent towers reach to the sky, as Heaney says “unroofed scope”; there is a power in that magnitude, that framing of wind and air, housing nothing but sky. I love the idea that the blocky brushwork and pointillism of the layers of ochres and blues build this architectural beauty out of nothing.
